Bijli Mahadev :-
Bijli Mahadev is one of the sacred temples of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at an altitude of about 2,460m in the Kullu Valley. This is one of the ancient temples in India and dedicated to Lord Shiva Located 14 km from Kullu across the Beas river. It can be approached by a trek of 3 km.
A panoramic view of Kullu and Paravati valleys can be seen from the temple. In this temple of lightning it is said that the tall staff attracts the divine blessings in the form of lightning. Lightning incidents occur like one in 12 years.
Temple stands out from all the other temples due to its serenity and scenic beauty. It is located at a height of 2460 m above the sea level.The glistening 60 feet staff of Bijli Mahadev is visible from a very long distance.
The lightning distorts the position of the Shiva Linga. The priest of the temple attaches it again using sattoo and butter as an adhesive. To reach this temple, you will have to perform a 3 km moderately difficult trek uphill. It is an easy trek for the younger persons.
It is a very famous tourist spot and people from all across the country pay this temple a sincere visit. The temple which is located on top of a hill covers a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys of Kullu, Parbati, Garsa and Bhunter. If you reach this temple, the serene surroundings of the place will leave you mesmerised and amazed.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Kullu is during the summer months. The Bijli Mahadev temple remains closed during the harsh winter months because of snow and rainfall. Ideally, you can plan a visit from March to September.
How to Reach
From Kullu, you can avail the bus services to reach the Bijli Mahadev temple. The bus will drop you off at Chansari village. From there you can climb the stairs for a distance of about 3kms to reach your destination. You can also avail the cab services in the Kullu taxi stand. If you are more of the adventurous kind, you can also walk all the way from Kullu itself. If the weather is pleasant, the journey is worth the while.
